HEALTH BENEFITS
Most baking powders contain aluminum and corn, where this recipe is grain free and aluminum free

Multiple Reasons To Make Your Own

Aluminum Free -
The EWG (The Environmental Working Group) is a resource we trust to help us sort through all the toxic ingredients found in so many of our foods and products. They compiled a detailed report on food additives, including a “Dirty Dozen” list—the ones that pose the greatest danger to our health. They are as follows: Nitrates & Nitrites, Potassium Bromate, Propylparaben, Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), Propyl gallate, Theobromine, Flavorings, natural or artificial, Artificial colorings, Diacetyl, Phosphates and last but not least…Aluminum additives . Such as sodium aluminum phosphate and sodium aluminum sulfate; used as stabilizers; linked to neurotoxicity.

Corn Free -
For people who do not tolerate corn this is a great substitute as the leading brand contains corn as a filler. In our recipe we use arrowroot powder which is a grain free filler.

GMO Free -
Most GMOs have been engineered to withstand the direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. GMOs are normally found in most packaged foods contain ingredients derived from corn, soy, canola, and sugar beet.

You ran out of boughten baking powder - Yes it happens, you are in the middle of baking and you reach for the baking powder and the container is empty. No problem, just grab your other pantry staples to whip up this version of baking powder.

This recipe is what I call a single-acting baking powder, which means it will react when it comes into contact with any form of liquid in a recipe. If using this recipe it's important to add your baking powder towards the end and to bake your recipe immediately.

Store-bought baking powder is typically double-acting. Another acid is added in the baking powder which makes it react when it's baked or heated. I will occasional buy the Rumford brand. It's aluminum-free, non-GMO, gluten-free but it does contain cornstarch.
