Homemade Sugar-free Ketchup

Homemade_sugar_free_ketchup.jpg

All my kids love ketchup and yes they even eat it on their tacos, so it is worth it for me to can and preserve my own. I will be sharing this process later, but if you are not a gardener I created this very easy recipe using organic tomato paste. Feel free to double the recipe as this recipe will keep longer than two weeks because of the fact it has quite a bit of vinegar.

HEALTH BENEFITS
The leading brand of ketchup is made using high fructose corn syrup. This recipe has zero sugar but tastes like the real deal with out all the harmful effects the hfc has on our bodies.

CUT THE SUGAR NOT THE FLAVOR

In the leading brand of ketchup can you guess what the 3rd and 4th ingredients are? You guessed it, high fructose corn syrup & corn syrup. There are so many reasons why we should be eliminating these two ingredients. One being that there is absolutely no nutritional value in High Fructose Corn Syrup or sugar for that matter. Why would we put things into our body that give us no benefit. It not only has no benefits but it has so many harmful properties including those that drive inflammation which leads to most chronic diseases.

Ingredients

  • 6 oz organic tomato paste
  • ¾ cup white vinegar
  • ¼ cup filtered water
  • 1 Tbsp Swerve Granular
  • 1 Tbsp Pyure Sweetener
  • 4 drops SweetLeaf liquid sweet drops
  • 1 tsp Real Salt
  • 1/16 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1/16 tsp black pepper
  • 1/16 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/16 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/16 tsp onion powder

Instructions

  1. In a heavy saucepan, mix together the tomato paste, vinegar, water and sweeteners. Bring this to a low boil until the sweeteners dissolve.
  2. Remove from heat and add in all your seasonings. Mix well. (I like to throw it in the blender so I have a nice smooth ketchup and to blend up the pepper flakes but this step is not necessary.)
  3. Place in a pint jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
  4. Enjoy!
